Russia’s Last Year? Why Europe Must Dump Trump and Finish the Job

Europe must wake up, ignore Trump’s dangerous pro-Putin fantasies, and take charge of Ukraine’s victory while Russia is on its knees. Simply put, the European Union should seize this historic moment to dismantle Russia’s weakened war machine and expose Trump as Putin’s most useful puppet.

Every time I read the Book of Habakkuk, I find myself questioning God—why does He allow evil men like Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to exist and continue to spread misery in the world? Why didn’t He give men like Donald Trump the common sense to see that Putin is nothing but a devil’s incarnate who needs to be obliterated? This war in Ukraine is a tragedy unfolding before our eyes, and it boggles the mind how someone like Trump can still cozy up to the man responsible for so much death and destruction. Putin plays Trump like a flute, and Trump dances to his tune, oblivious to the devastation caused by this deadly partnership. I can’t help but wonder what secrets lie in some Kremlin drawer—what kompromat Putin holds that keeps Trump so firmly under his thumb.

Intelligence reports now say that Russia might last only another year in this war. Let that sink in—one more year before Russia’s already crippled economy and weakened military collapse under the strain of this brutal conflict. One year before the cracks in Putin’s empire widen beyond repair. This is a golden opportunity for Europe to act decisively. Forget waiting for the U.S. or for Trump’s unpredictable moves. Europe needs to seize this moment, take the lead, and finance Ukraine for a win that would secure peace, democracy, and their own strategic interests.

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine continues to fight for his country’s very survival, while Trump dreams of so-called “peace talks” that would hand half of Ukraine to Putin on a silver platter. Trump’s recent call for direct negotiations with Putin is not just naïve; it’s dangerous. Every time Trump opens his mouth on Ukraine, it sounds like he’s reading directly from Putin’s playbook. And that’s no coincidence. There’s something lurking in the shadows of this strange relationship—something that explains why Trump can’t bring himself to say a bad word about Putin. There’s no other explanation for why Trump constantly downplays Russia’s aggression while undermining Ukraine’s fight for survival.

History is filled with examples of how dangerous appeasement can be. Putin’s invasion of Ukraine didn’t come out of nowhere. It’s the result of years of weak responses from the West. Remember Crimea in 2014? That was just the first bold step in Putin’s plan. Then came Russian interference in U.S. elections, cyberattacks, and political assassinations on foreign soil. Every time the West turned the other way, Putin took another step forward. Trump’s admiration for him only made things worse. Let’s not forget the moment Trump called Putin “a genius” for launching the current invasion of Ukraine. Genius? The same man responsible for mass graves in Bucha, missile strikes on maternity hospitals, and the displacement of millions of Ukrainians? If that’s Trump’s definition of genius, we should all be terrified.

But Europe holds the power to change the course of history. If European nations band together, fully commit to Ukraine, and provide unwavering financial and military support, this war can end faster than anyone expects. And when it does, Europe should play hardball. First, take control of Russia’s oilfields and reduce Europe’s dependence on foreign energy. Second, comb through Russian archives to find the kompromat that has kept Trump so obedient to Putin’s every whim. The world deserves to know the truth behind their toxic bromance.

This is no time for half-measures or diplomatic niceties. Ukraine doesn’t need flowery speeches or empty promises. It needs tanks, fighter jets, and a steady stream of funding. Europe cannot afford to wait for the next U.S. election or another one of Trump’s political circus acts. The window is closing fast, and history will not forgive those who stood by while Ukraine bled and pleaded for help. Supporting Ukraine is not just about aiding a country in need—it’s about defending democracy, standing up to tyranny, and preventing future generations from growing up in a world shaped by Putin’s brutal vision.

Remember the infamous phone call that led to Trump’s first impeachment? That’s right—the one where Trump tried to withhold military aid from Ukraine unless Zelensky agreed to dig up dirt on his political rivals. If that wasn’t enough to prove that Trump can’t be trusted when it comes to Ukraine, I don’t know what is. And yet, here we are, watching Trump advocate for peace deals that serve no one but Putin.

If recent intelligence is correct, Russia’s war machine is running on fumes. Sanctions have hollowed out its economy, and military losses have left it dangerously vulnerable. This is precisely why Europe must act now. The time for cautious diplomacy is over. This is the moment for bold leadership, and Europe needs to rise to the occasion. Waiting for the U.S. to lead the charge is a mistake. Trump’s unpredictability and bizarre affection for Putin make it clear that American policy could shift at any moment. Europe must take control of its own destiny.

When Ukraine wins—and it will win with the right support—Europe will have reshaped the balance of power in the world. A victorious Ukraine means a weakened Russia and a safer, more stable Europe. It also means that Europe can stop relying on the U.S. as its main security guarantor. By taking the lead now, Europe will prove that it is capable of defending its values and its future without waiting for permission from Washington.

Zelensky has already shown the world what true leadership looks like. He stayed in Kyiv when bombs rained down, rallied his people, and inspired the world with his courage. It’s time for Europe to match his resolve and take the necessary steps to secure victory. Imagine the world after this war—one where Europe is stronger, more united, and no longer dependent on Russian energy or American whims. Imagine the power shift when Europe exposes the secrets that have kept Trump so loyal to Putin.

Habakkuk asked God why evil thrives and why justice seems so slow. But the prophet also wrote that justice will come, though it may delay. Well, the time for that justice has arrived. Europe needs to grab this moment, help Ukraine win, and expose the secrets Putin has kept hidden for far too long. Maybe then we’ll finally understand what turned Trump into Putin’s favorite puppet—and laugh at the absurdity of it all.
